Trends in AI for 2022 and Beyond

Artificial Intelligence is growing in popularity each day. While the pandemic ultimately catapulted the use of AI from a business perspective, it was still gaining traction even before. AI has applications that can pertain to every domain and can be beneficial in each. With this explosive growth, trends are bound to occur. Below, we dive deeper into the trends associated with conversational AI to keep an eye out for beginning in 2022 and beyond.

#1. Conversational AI

Conversational AI systems and solutions are becoming increasingly important to businesses and how successful they are. Some state-of-the-art bots are being developed and deployed by some of the top tech companies worldwide and utilized by leading enterprises. Conversational AI is so intelligent nowadays that some customers may not even realize that they are not interacting with a human agent or representative. When the bot is this intelligent, customers often prefer the bot. In a study conducted by Aalen University titled “Conversational Business Study 2020”, 47 percent of survey respondents have already (knowingly) interacted with a bot. Many contact centers now deploy bots to assess customer satisfaction. Conversational AI is just beginning to gain popularity and will increasingly modernize each year and gain influence and intelligence.

#2. AI and Cloud Integration

A trend that is expected to grow exponentially is AI and its integration into cloud solutions. AI-enabled cloud solutions will allow users to monitor and manage resources related to the cloud and gain access to vast amounts of data, all while doing so seamlessly. AI is highly efficient and effective in managing cloud computing challenges because it optimizes data using machine learning and, therefore, cloud capabilities. It is a win-win solution for all parties involved, and as more organizations catch on, the trend will grow in the coming year. At the same time, cloud computing systems will allow AI systems to scale when needed. AI will help automate the tasks associated with data metrics without requiring human intervention. AI will detect important patterns and trends in the data sets and provide better data management. This allows IT teams to focus more on the strategy and technical side while AI will take care of the mundane or tedious aspects.

#3. Healthcare

Even before the Covid-19 pandemic, AI, especially machine learning, was gaining popularity in various industries. As Covid-19 spread rapidly and globally, the need to analyze and interpret tons of data from all over the world was also growing. Tons of organizations were looking for tools to help them collect health data and statistics and keep track of covid-19-related metrics. The world needed help analyzing and managing the vast amounts of data rapidly coming in to prevent another detrimental pandemic like the 1918-1920 Spanish flu that took fifty million lives in just a short period of time. AI was the solution; it can analyze and manage the data with extreme accuracy. Using AI and its many tools, research teams were able to gain smarter insights from large amounts of data. This data can be used to predict another pandemic when it inevitably occurs sometime in the future. AI’s self-teaching algorithms and smart machines are and will forever be working alongside essential workers, fighting the pandemic. While 2020 saw an explosion in the use of AI in healthcare, it also proved that AI should be a central aspect of healthcare technical departments and be utilized effectively.

#4. Cyber Security and AI

AI is directing companies to a newer age of cyber security. Technology is evolving every day, and there are constantly new security threats for organizations to worry about. Hackers are finding more opportunities to gain valuable information. Developers are trying to work as fast as these hackers to prevent threats from happening in the first place. Over the past few years, some high-profile cyber-attacks have caused many people and businesses to secure their computers and information even more. In a 2019 survey by Marsh & McLennan, 79% of global executives rank risk management of cyber threats and attacks as one of their organization’s highest priorities. Machine learning can offer insights into security breaches before they ever happen. This is why it is a recurring favorite among many organizations and is vastly being incorporated into risk management strategies.

#5. IT and AI

Technology experts worldwide are attesting to the large-scale adoption of AI tools in organizations. IT companies specifically are at the forefront of a competitive environment while also growing with technology and innovations. This is one of the reasons that IT professionals are putting AI technologies at the forefront. A study conducted by IDC revealed that global spending on AI systems will reach $57.6 billion by the end of 2021. Machine learning plays an essential role in creating many AI-based IT solutions. AI is already actively being used in automation and QA services and is now playing a role in software and application development, as well as service desk inquiries.

#6. Language Modeling

Language modeling is a technique that allows machines to understand and communicate with humans in a language we can understand. It can also take natural human languages into account and turn them into computer code that will run programs and applications. These programs and applications comprise hundreds of billions of “parameters” or variables and points of data used by machines to process language. The hope is that in the coming years, the number of parameters will grow exponentially. This will be a massive step for AI and technological development that will create programs that can communicate in any language and hold conversations indistinguishable from a human. It will also become much more detailed and disciplined in creating computer code.

#7. The Rise of AI Ops

There is a growing use of AI to analyze vast amounts of data. AiOps or Artificial Intelligence and Operations (similar to DevOps or Development and Operations) unify data and AI to organize and analyze unstructured data. Because of this trend, there is a substantial opportunity for AIOps to make a difference in the organization and structure of conventional processes. As more and more organizations adopt RPA, machine learning, and other automation techniques, things will become further unified and simplified for human employees. Traditionally, unstructured data was an obstacle, but with AI, issues are resolved and refined with ease.

2022 sees further opportunities for artificial intelligence to become one of the best, most transformative scientific developments humans have ever created. It has impacted almost every industry around the world. So many businesses are making use of this technology in one way or another. It can be pretty daunting for some or a lot to understand; the idea of allowing machines to make decisions is a lot to think about. 2022 and beyond will continue to provide further breakthroughs, new developments, and opportunities to assist humans in simplifying tasks.
